WRC: TÄNAK LEADS NEUVILLE BY ALMOST HALF A MINUTE, OGIER FIFTH

Toyota-WRC driver Ott Tänak leads Wales Rally GB after Friday's stages. WRC 2018 title rivals Neuville and Ogier are in second and fifth place overall respectively.

Tänak took the lead after the first stage this morning, and extended his lead throughout the day. However, Neuville won the final stage of the day, which decreased the gap to 28.8 seconds at the end of the day.

Jari-Matti Latvala is in third, only 2.5 seconds behind Neuville and 4.6 seconds ahead of team-mate Esapekka Lappi. Reigning WRC-champion Sébastien Ogier is in fifth, 2.3 seconds behind Lappi.

Citroën driver Craig Breen holds sixth, ahead of Hayden Paddon and Mads Østberg. Andreas Mikkelsen, who said ''it was not really a day to remember'', is ninth.

Kalle Rovanperä dominated in WRC2 and is in tenth overall.  The 18-year-old Skoda driver is almost a minute (!) ahead of his team-mate Pontus Tidemand.

Ogier suffered gearbox issues in SS4 this morning. The Frenchman survived the double pass through the 1.63 kilometre Slate Mountain stage (SS5&6) and a 100 kilometre road section to the service park. The M-Sport mechanics managed to get the gearbox fixed for the afternoon stages.

Last year's Wales Rally GB winner Elfyn Evans was forced to retire on the road section to SS7. The Fiesta WRC of the Welshman suffered mechanical problems. Evans was in second place overall at the end of SS6.

Latvala damaged the windscreen of his Yaris WRC after hitting a stone in SS8. The Finn backed off slightly, which resulted in Neuville passing the Toyota-driver.

Suninen went off on the final stage of the day. The Ford Fiesta WRC of the 24-year-old was stuck in a ditch and couldn't continue.
