WRC: TÄNAK JUMPS TO VICTORY IN FINLAND

Ott Tänak and co-driver Martin Järveoja have won Rally Finland 2018, 8th round of the 2018 World Rally Championship. Tänak’s win in Finland is his second win of the season, and his fourth of his career. Mads Østberg came home in second. Jari-Matti Latvala became third, the Finn who secured his second podium of the season, finished just 2.8 seconds behind Østberg.

nak was in a tense battle with Østberg on Friday. Only 5.8 seconds separated the two drivers at the end of the first full day. But the Estonian managed to increase his lead on Saturday, and with only 4 stages to run on Sunday, the Toyota driver controlled the 39 second gap to celebrate a second win of the season.

Esapekka Lappi crashed out on the first stage of the final day. The 27-year-old was fourth overall. Lappi’s crash promoted Hayden Paddon to fourth.

Sébastien Ogier finished in fifth. M-Sport Ford teammate Teemu Suninen received a 20 second time penalty before the final stage for being late at a Time Control. Suninen, who was in front of Ogier for the whole rally, ultimately finished sixth, 4.2 seconds behind Ogier.

Elfyn Evans and Craig Breen finished seventh and eight respectively.
Championship leader Thierry Neuville came home in ninth overall, Andreas Mikkelsen rounded off the top 10.

Tänak also won the Power Stage, which means the Toyota driver takes the maximum 30 points from Rally Finland.
